The Innovation Walk Master Plan team recently held a community outreach event in Downtown Fort Myers to invite the community into the early stages of the planning process.
Hosted by the Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and Perkins&Will Planning team, the booth offered the community an opportunity to learn about the Innovation Walk and share their thoughts about what innovation means to them.
Visitors explored a large printed map illustrating the proposed Innovation Walk route, including its endpoints and the location of the first installation. A 3D model of the inaugural installation was also displayed, giving participants a tangible glimpse of how art, storytelling, and technology may come together along the corridor.
The booth featured two interactive engagement activities.
Participants were asked:
“What domains of innovation are you interested in seeing reflected in the Innovation Walk’s design?”
Options included:
- Air
- Water
- Tools
- Sustainability
- Light and Power
- Astronomy
- Other
The team also invited attendees to respond to a digital Mentimeter question:
“What does innovation mean to you?”
Responses populate a live word cloud that will help inform the storytelling and design themes throughout the Innovation Walk.
The public was also able to take home postcards with information about the project, visit the Innovation Walk website, and sign up to receive project updates.
The ArtsFest engagement marks the beginning of a broader community input process that will continue throughout the planning phase. Upcoming activities will include stakeholder meetings, advisory groups, and public engagement events as the Innovation Walk Master Plan takes shape.
Community members who were unable to attend ArtsFest can still share their ideas by completing the online survey:
